UJYALO is a Nepali term meaning the light that follows darkness

The UJYALO program is a joint implementation of 5 collaborating INGO's- Save the Children-USA (SC-US) as a Prime,Winrock International (WI), The Asia Foundation (TAF), International Development Enterprises (IDE) and CARE Nepal (CN). All these organization are working together to promote peace through improved income, support and local capacity for peace among conflict affected communities in western Nepal.


Peacebuilding involves creating conditions in the society which will support a  long term peace.

Community peace is the situation of social inclusion and social justice in the community where people live without violent conflict. People live securely and freely and with human rights. Social cooperation, collaboration and friendship help to create quality between all people.There is gender and caste equality, protection against violence, social inclusion and social justice in society. There is progress, development, trust and cooperation in the community.

CARE Nepal has recently developed its three years Strategic Plan. Under its Strategic Plan (2006-2009), one out of four strategic directions is SD 3: “To mainstream conflict sensitivity into all CARE Nepal’s programming in order to minimize its negative impact, and position ourselves to engage in peace building.”
