Irrigation Management Transfer Project (IMTP)

The project seeks to contribute to the development of sustainable household livelihood systems through improved performance of public irrigation systems. The project will focus on strengthening the institutional and technical capability of Water User Associations so they can shoulder the canal operation and maintenance activities in an effective and efficient manner. The primary project activity comprises establishing effective Water User Associations, support for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems and transferring the management responsibilities of the irrigation systems to them.

The project consists of 10 sub-projects, which are located in five development regions of Nepal. The total command area measures 67,800 hectares. The sub-projects are: Khageri (39,000 ha), Panchakanya (600 ha), West Gandak (10,300 ha), Pathriya (1,800 ha), Banganga (6,100 ha), Mohana (3,500), Manusmara I & II (5,200 ha), Hardinath East and West (2,000 ha), Kamala East and West (25,000 ha) and Chandra Canal (8,700 ha)]. 38,000 households is expected to be directly benefited from this project.
