Family Health Program of Jibika
Goal: Overall Project: To contribute to poverty reduction through the development, application and dissemination of effective strategies at local and national level
Health Component: To improve access to and coverage of health services in the district
Location: 5 VDCs of Achham district with the aim of expanding to another 22 VDCs over the next few months

Target Group: Poor, women and Dalits, 30,000 households or 168,000 people
Project Interventions (Health Component)
  • Family health program focused on ANC, promoting safe delivery practices and PNC
  • Sanitation program focused on construction of toilets and promotion of personal hygiene, and
  • Support DHO in National Immunization Day (NID) and
  • Organizing health camps for curative and referral services to RH related problems among women.
Working Modality
Project activities are being implemented in close collaboration with District (Public) Health Office and District Development Committee.

The Team Leader of the Project provides managerial support in project activities and a Community Health Officer is responsible for the overall implementation of the health activities, which also includes coordination with district line agencies and concerned stakeholders in planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. The project is managed by Jibika, and Technical support is provided from the health team at Nepalgunj and Country Office level.

Major accomplishments (March 2003- Feb 2004)
  • Supported District Health Office to activate the Out Reach Clinics (ORC) in close coordination with Health Facilities, Health Facility Management Committee and Local leaders and volunteers
  • Supplied essential drugs and equipments to District Health Office for quality health service delivery at the community levels
  • Support provided to health facilities through renovation of damaged health centers
  • Supported District Health Office other regular programs such as National Immunization Day celebration, organizing Health camps, ANC/PNC service promotion etc.
